I have the max tow package and sticker shows 36 gal. tank. I went to put a little gas in the truck this morning as I only had about 40 miles left in it (right up to E). I put $50 in which gave me about 12.9 gals. The needle however shows I've got a 1/2 tank, but my miles shows I have about 192 miles before E. Confused because 12 gal. should only be 1/3 tank and I swore with a full tank I'd have about 500 miles to E. So at 1/2 tank, miles to E should read about 250 miles. Is the truck that smart that it estimates miles to E based on my driving? What about 12 gal of gas showing 1/2 tank? I was only getting about 13 mpg previously but that was mixed in with some towing so I reset the mpg reading prior to getting gas this morning. Not it's showing 17.9 mpg. Wasn't sure where else to post this.

In the two trucks I've owned, (last one had a 22 gal tank) I've noticed the half of the gauge from 1/2 to E always seems to fall faster than from full to 1/2. Not sure why, but think it might have to do with the gas sloshing around in the tank a lot more because it's half empty and the sending unit will only react so fast.
Also when going up or down steep grades my fuel level can shift 1/4 or more.
Either way I don't think you have have a problem and I wouldn't worry.

So we've got 30 gallon tanks with a 6 gallon reserve.
