Big mistake by dummy me....Need some help!

Well i have gone and messed up big time. Yesterday, while installing some power wires for my lc2i for the system i am putting in my truck, i managed to mess up some wires. I was drilling a small hole through the rubber grommet that the wires pass through in the firewall. Well somehow i managed to hit a few wires. I know...huge mistake, i was drilling the hole way to the side of the bundle of wires but somehow still hit them. I spliced the wires that i cut back together with butt splices. I am an electrician and it was pretty easy splicing them back together with butt splices. Now i have the wrench light on in my truck and my gas pedal and cruise control arent working. I figured after splicing the wires back together that it would fix it. But it didnt. So im wondering if when i hit the wires it through some kind of code, and even though i fixed the wires i still have no gas pedal or cruise control. If anyone has any insight on to why its not working, it would be greatly appreciated before i take it in to the ford place and they tell me i need a new wiring harness. Thanks in advance!

Disconnect your battery.
(with headlights on to fully drain residual power?)

Wait a few (30) minutes, I think.

Connect back up.

Hopefully it resets everything.
I think they call it a manual Kam reset.

I tried that. Disconnected the battery and let it sit overnight, and even did a kam reset with my programmer and still no change.

Thats what i was wondering if it was the butt splices since the wire is so small. Think i might try the solder or even wire nut it first so i know the connection is good.

Sorry to hear about problem. I would guess that there are more wires needing assistance as well as maybe some fuses. Being an electrician as well I can understand trying to repair it all yourself, maybe get a harness from a doner truck might be the best bet.

Im pretty positve i have found the wires that were damaged since it was just in that area. I didnt think about a fuse. Ill have to check the fuse box. If i cant fix it thats what ill be doing next. Try to find a part out truck and get the harness off it.

Please never ever use wire nuts in a vehicle. Butt connectors are bad enough.

All that aside, I would guess you grounded something you shouldn't have and it made the computer angry.
I agree with a KAM reset and see if it's all better.

I know wire nuts arent the best option but soldering the wires in that area is next to impossible. I tried the kam reset and still no luck. Something definitely threw the computer off since the wrench light it on.

I’ve looked and haven’t found any blown fuses. That’s what I thought the problem was too. But I haven’t found any. Going to look again today

Agree with this over wire nuts ^^^^^

Also when making additional holes in the grommet, the best method is to take the grommet out completely and cut the hole you want. Then simply install it back. Sorry for your troubles, and wire nut won’t work well here. Posi-tap first if you need to just get going. However in the end, use a heat shrink (marine grade) and soldier

Lol, I always enjoy seeing electricians work with low voltage wiring. There's usually oversized wire nuts and butt splices involved...

Double check your wiring, any chance you have some of your wires crossed or not crimped properly?

Check fuses, carefully inspect all other wires in the harness.

If your still having problems meter out both ends of the harness.

I know which size wire nuts and butt splices to use.......there wasn’t any wires that were the same color that were broken, so I don’t think any got mixed up.ive inspected all the wires in the harness. I’ve soldered them together now and still hasn’t fixed the problem. Wrench light is still on. Is there a way to check continuity through the bigger fuses. Not the regular 10 or 15 amp fuses etc.

What codes do you have and what do they say?

The check engine light is not on. Just the wrench light. It says there are no codes being thrown on my x4.

Not sure if the X4 is capable of reading all codes, might want to scan with a more capable device if not.

Regardless of codes, no codes... wrench light, check engine light... some things can only be reset by an OEM scan tool or equivalent. If something was detected out of the factory perimeters that is probably your problem.
I hope it's something that simple for you.

I agree. I’m pretty sure that is the problem. Because I know I have soldered the wires together correctly and I think the computer was just thrown off and it has to be reset by and oem scan tool from the ford dealership. I will be taking it to the dealership sometime this week. I hope it’s that simple too, and from what I’ve researched, I’m pretty sure that is the problem.
