Driver's side CV axle shaft replacement

I'm in the process of replacing my driver's side CV axle shaft and I'm stuck. It's a 2012 FX4 Supercab and I cannot get the axle shaft out. I've done a number of 8.8 and Dana 44 rebuilds, so I thought this would be similar, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get it out. I've torn it down to the pumpkin, even having to remove one of the EPAS bolts (holy hell torque on those bolts!) and now I'm trying to figure out how to get the C-clip off the end of the axle shaft inside the pumpkin. There is no play for me to push the CV axle shaft in to access the C-clip, even after removing the pinion shaft and the two free spider gears. Any help?

Welp... figured it out with a pry bar and a hammer. Wish I had been a little more forceful with earlier before the pumpkin dump and EPAS workout! While not as secure as a C- clip, I definitely understand now why Ford did it this way! All it took was several light whacks with a 4lb sledge while prying it out and it did the trick!

Looks like I'm a little late here, but now you know you didn't need to get at the pumpkin to get the axle shaft out.
Might as well stick some new fluid in there while you're at it. (I'm guessing that's already done as well).
Yes, after fully disconnecting the EPAS and removing it, I was able to get the cover back on and everthing put back together with new fluids. Now I have to figure out if my 4wd hub actuator got dorked up in the process and is causing the ticking at low speeds...

Thinking of starting a new thread for this question, but what type of grease is used inside the IWE and on the outboard end of the CV half shaft? I'm fairly certain it's not high temp wheel bearing grease, as that appears to be too thick and causing the IWE to engage slowly. And the tick is more of a thunk, unfortunately.
