I just took the power train. Personally, it covers my engine, turbos, transmission and axles. All I need pretty much, I'm sure there is little here and there also included.

With your esp do you have to worry about being tuned?

You always have to worry. It's a chance you take if you tune. Dealer or Corp can deny it, if it's a major blow up i would think. Not sure if anyone here got denied because of tune exactly

Fortunately i don't have a tune on mine, he just changed shift points. Asking for in the future, I'd still like to do it up

Ohh I get it, I just can't speak for the dealer you'll go to. Some are ok with it and some will slap ya. If you are worried about voiding the warranty, I'd keep it untuned until end of it.

That was years ago when i nought the truck. He did say that if anything happened it would be covered under
Ford factory warranty, however he's no longer there so i wouldn't use him as a "but he said i could!" Argument.....

My 2011 F150 currently has the dreaded rattle at start up issue. Last week I was finally able to capture it twice in videos on my phone so I made an appointment with the selling dealer and dropped it off Friday afternoon with hopes that it would make the sound on start up Monday morning. They did not hear the noise and have not been able to get it to do it each day since (they still have my truck). I showed them the videos but they still are insisting they hear it in person. I purchased the extended service plan at the time of sale and it expires in August. I'm started to wonder what my next move should be. Has anyone had one of these fixed under the extended service plan? Was it a pain to get them to do it? Any advice on what my next move should be?

I actually had smooth sailing with mine. I took it in with bunch of videos, just to be ready. They kept it overnight to hear it, I made sure I was there. No sound. But the service shop forman said he knows what I'm talking about and I jumped right away on the whole talk about the 16-0027 TSB. Well he said, there's a new TSB just for the tensioner and bracket. I was like ohh really. He said yup, so what we will do is we will do both TSBs, the one that replaces the chain, phasers, etc... and then the latest one too, that does the tensioner.

He said parts are on backorder so it'll be a week.

Week later, got a call, took it in, 24 hours later got a call truck is ready.

Very satisfied with my current dealership, even though 2 years ago when I wanted to trade my old 2003 f150 for a used 2011+ truck, they didn't want to work with me. So took it else where, other Ford.

So service department rocks awesome, sales sucks chunks at this dealership lol.

New owner of an Ecoboost with over 100K so no warranty. How much should the parts cost from the dealer for chains and phasers if I plan to replace them myself? Any better aftermarket options?

Cost at dealer will be $3200+ .. you could get ESP for 50k at $1500. $3200 Is to start and that's not all the parts, doing in your driveway with many additional parts you can add since your in there $1500 or so and your time.

THIS IS AN IMPORTANT POST, and I will likely start a new thread here shortly. PLEASE READ.

For everyone who is having their timing service done at the dealer or elsewhere, before they put one part in the motor ask to see the parts list.

A potential customer called last night regarding a motor and while discussing the particulars he mentioned he had his dealer perform the typical TSB and he heard a rattle after a couple miles of the work being completed. 500 miles later, both Intake banks were timed horribly, and the motor spun a bearing and popped from the wear particles that the improperly installed timing parts caused.

Ford had the primary tensioner and right hand chain guide arm part numbers wrong across Ford parts and dealers

Since then i am pretty sure that they have made the proper corrections for those part numbers, but please be proactive and check before hand with the dealer or shop.

Incorrect Tensioner pic 1

Pic 2: timing off in that short of time.

Pic 3: what the tensioner and arm should look like. I have posted part numbers of both correct and incorrect tensioners in this thread with images.

I hope this helps save someone a major headache, time, money, and their sanity.

I've read about the last 20 posts as starting from beginning is not going to give me the answers quick enough.seems there's a few different TSB's to fix the rattle failures of the chain..the last basically meaning everything has to be replaced on the front of the motor, chain guides, phasers ,etc if you have all the TSB's done.. luckily it hasn't happened yet knock on wood !

ppl are inquiring how much it's going to cost to repair if they are out of warranty or after making a high mileage truck purchase ,which to me seems a little werid ,because myself previously being a honest tech we would send customers of varying manufactures to the dealer to have a TSB done to save them 100's or 1000's of dollars & being a independent garage myself 80% of the vehicles are all out of warranty.. example we sent lots of Nissan V6 vehicles with 100k-300k & 10 plus yrs old for TSB 's on bad injectors which were covered at no charge by the dealership,so is ford any different aren't TSB's covered warranty or no warranty as it's a known failure which they have agreed to repair ?

No tsbs have not and will not be covered when warranty is up.

Well that sucks, although thinking back it would depend on the type failure if they covered it after the warranty,or if it's listed as a recall..
has anyone lost a motor due to this timing issue ?

No recall on timing chain failure nor will it be covered if your warranty is up. To Ford it's just noise you hear and if within warranty it's fixed under it as TSB, if out of warranty then it's up to you if you want it fixed or not. I've spoken with many techs at different dealers on this and all of their foreman said, it's not like it's gonna blow up or anything ... Lol... That's the answer you probably will get. Many have tried under emission warranty or the regular warranty, I myself went and got TSB just in case. It happened, I took it in and fixed under the extended warranty. $1200 vs $3000 or like dealer sent their invoice in for my repair which ended up being like $4800.

Bottom answer is, if you ware out of warranty it's your pocket money that will pay for the rattle fix. No one else. Cheers.

I hate having any motor of mine taken apart after yrs of seeing ppl screw up at dealers & other shops.so I used to repair my own stuff even with a base warranty, but I have little choice now,& it's been hit & miss even at tunning shops.anyway I will look into the TSB,I just hate not being able to see or double check the repair myself any more.Although I TRUST most engine Machine shops most over all.
I'm going to check the local Byran ford service centers ratings,Small town dealers scare the crap out of me.they wouldn't even align my truck because it had aftermarket control arms & bags, while the ford dealer in Houston was fine with it,although I just went to a place that specializes in lifted truck suspension alignments....with MY LUCK I end up with a problem I hadn't had yet.

Wow I now took the time to read a large amount of this thread & it literally scares the crap out of me..I have never gotten extended warranties ever ! Although my truck is a 14,& I think the 3yrs is up Aug 17,it's only got 9k miles on it..it's hard to tell if the fix isn't working or if a lot of ford techs just suck after reading so many trucks came back worse or with the same failure..
i love my truck but it's got me rethinking coyote ? Plus twins would of been a better option..

Ehhh... Don't let it scare you. I've gotten the rattle about 10k after I bought my truck used, got the extended warranty, took it in, got it fixed and since I got another 50k pretty much left on my extended warranty I'm not worries. Let it blow and they'll be putting a new one. Extended warranty cost me only $1200. So far, I saved

By the time my warranty runs out, I'll probably be looking at something else or at least have it all paid off and fixed.

The fix, she's running awesome! Fuel mileage has increased a bit, no more rattle, no shakes, no under boost, no funky business. So far I'm a happy owner. [emoji16]
