Obligatory not an f-150 but, I thought I would get a better response here. Pretty self-explanatory from the title. see the video attached. makes this noise for a short time after starting and driving the car and goes away after warmed up (2-3 miles.) Cannot reproduce the sound in park, neutral, or brake standing. Local mechanic told me he can't pinpoint it and my dealership says there is nothing wrong, said they checked turbo performance and nothing out of sorts there along with other various checks I'm sure. been happening for the past year or so but, getting really loud (can hear it with the widows up and over low volume radio) and I am looking to sell my car in the next month or so...

I don't think it is the common exhaust manifold bolt shearing, I have inspected the exhaust manifold for any soot build-up on the outside of the head though, the rear manifold is pretty hard to see. If it was exhaust I'm pretty sure I could reproduce while break standing... let me know what you think.

Thanks!

Admittedly hard to hear for me, but I'm almost leaning towards a wheel bearing sound. When it's misbehaving, does a turn in either direction quiet it or make it more pronounced?
Yeah, I took the video in a mad dash to work this morning. I can maybe take a better one if this post gets some traction.

Anyway, thanks for the reply. I have considered the wheel bearing but have not had luck quieting or pronouncing the noise by turning/shifting the car's weight. Also, no up/down or left/right play at the wheel when I did the breaks last fall. The sound does seem to come from the front driver's side wheel well area though. if it's not the bearing could the cv axle be going out? something else in the transaxle/secondary output, maybe??

A gentleman at O'riellys said it's probably the exhaust issue i mentioned above... again to further drive my opinion that it is NOT, most exhaust leaks come with ticking sound of some sort, and the ones I've heard on eco boost come with a very pronounced turbo whistle sound. I could be wayyyy off base though on this thinking.

Yeah I think if it was an exhaust manifold you would know by hearing it chirp and the smell of fuel& exhaust.
Could be a loose heat shield on the frontal exhaust area?
I would think that you would feel the front end wonder or steering wheel shake/vibrations etc if their was a drive line issue.
That's a tough one from your video.
I think you need to submit something a pinch clearer?
I was a BIG GEN1 SHO guy, I had a cranberry red 1990 5 speed! Had all the SHO SHOP go fast goodies on it.
I had 2 issues with the Yamaha/Ford V6.
#1> had to check / replace valves shims.
#2> a motor mount would let go and need to be changed
Other than that it was flawless!
Get us a vid and possibly us F150 Boost brother s can get you on the right track!

Badass ride. A buddy of mine in highschool had one that was blue it was the stuff.

Okay, I'll take a better video after work. given it decides to make the noise... I have a quiet strech here by my office so there won't be any traffic noise.

Updated sound, much clearer. Take a listen and let me know if anyone has any more ideas.
taking it to another local shop on Monday. the gentleman I spoke to on the phone has some ideas of what it could be so... we'll see I guess.

Might also tear out the wheel bearing just to inspect...
