I am having the same problem with my truck. It will occasionally make the noise, but I've only noticed it when I put it into Park. It will continue to make that low grinding noise until I turn the car off or take it out of park. I dropped it off with my local dealer last week and they too "couldn't" reproduce the problem. They did how ever move the transmission line further away, stating that it could have been the problem. It of course wasn't the fix as it just happened again today. I've only noticed it happening when I put the car in Park or when I take the car from Park all the way to Drive. You will hear it as it changes gears.

I drive a 2013 Ford F150 Platinum not even 2k miles on it yet and it started when the car only have 1k on it. I am going to drop it off with them again soon.

They also added a nice 16" long gash to the side of my new truck while it was there! Yahoo! First time ever buying a new car is starting out great! If anyone finds a fix, please let us know!!!!!

Google FX4 transmission grinding noise. There's a related TSB that addresses this.

I am not finding anything by typing that in Google. I am bringing it back in for service again next week. We will see what they say.

Thanks for posting the video. I have had my 2013 at the dealer 3 times for the same problem. The dealer can never reproduce the problem...

The other day it made the noise just as i got home and i popped the hood. The noise was coming from the tranmission cooler and oil lines on the left hand side of the cooler. You could feel it vibrating. Any ideas what would cause the oil return line to resonate like that? I suspect the transmission thermostat is not fully closing.

Just got mine back this am. They replaced some thermostatic valve assembly and topped off fluid. Said road checked, ok. Also, performed TSB 14-0040. Block heater and PCM update. Backed out of parking spot at grocery store, and grrrrrr! Same fucking sound from tranny cooler! I bleed ford blue, but this is getting out of control.

Do you have the service order copy? I wonder what they did?
I'm waiting for backordered parts from a delayed shift TSB. Supposed to have them in April.

I just dropped it off with them again this morning. They said they want to keep it for a few days this time. I will report back once I get the vehicle.

What you are hearing is the hydroboost pump for the brakes. The engine doesn't produce enough vacuum for the brake system(go figure) so we have a pump for it right behind the driver side headlight. If you pump the brakes in park and the tone changes that's what you are hearing. The 11s and 12s have the same loud pump. The 13s is different but will still make noise. It's pretty normal. I hate it but what can you do.

If that's it, why would it act up when I put the truck in park and foot is off the brake, or make noise when shifting from park into reverse or drive? It is so noisy and obtrusive, and happens so rarely and unpredictably, it can't be a stock Ford design.

That being said, I'll check that theory out too...

I thought the same thing. I'm still researching the issue. But from what I've felt, heard and read it makes sense. Mine does it as soon as I put it in park also. But it also does it while stopped at a light. When I pump my brakes the Sound alters a bit. No one seems to have the answer for it including ford. So I'm trying to troubleshoot on my own. Also it might be on when going into park or shifting because you just used the brakes a bunch to shift into the right gear. But who knows

Have you ever had a delayed shift from Park to gear, or reverse to drive? Like a 2-3 second delay?

I have indeed. I've also heard of it being some type of module on the transmission but it doesn't make sense for it to be in the inner fender. I'm not canceling that out of my troubleshooting but I really think it has to do with the braking system.

There's a TSB for that, which replaces a solenoid and a valve, I believe, in the transmission, that supposedly addresses the issue. Currently on backorder due to redesign and too many problems with that unit. I'm due to get mine replaced in April or May.

I read that. But even after the fix it can still make noise. So I'm thinking they are connected like everything is in these new vehicles are. Fixing one end of it doesn't necessarily rectify the other.

Well come April, I think we will find out for sure. I am still waiting to hear back from my local Ford dealership. Day 2.

Well, I have found out it will make the noise more often when parked on an incline! Try it out and let me know if it does it more often when you park it on a slight incline.

If the incline increases the probability I might take it to the dealer, have the tech jump in and find an incline lmao

Yeah inclined nose up.

Say normally it would happen 1 out of 20 times on level ground.

On the incline probably 1/6 times.
Just an estimate but you get what I'm sayin.

Dropped mine off at the dealership last night. Took a ride with the service manager and explained what was going on. On our test ride, I was able to get it to make the same noise as in the video here. Then he asks me if it makes the same noise on incline and when going from Drive to Park. Mine has done that on several occasions, but usually stops in a second or two. The service manager says he has seen one other case and they found the transmission fluid was low. They are checking out the tranny fluid level now.
