So for the last week while I've been waiting for the new vacuum pump to show up every morning when I'm driving to work it has been around -5 C and about ten minutes into my drive a chime goes off in my truck and the display has "check brake system". I just kept driving to work and no issues. At the end of the days all but one of the days had been around the +10-15C range and I wouldn't get the alert on my display, but the one day it stayed cool the alert came on right away. My replacement showed up on Friday but I didn't get it changed out till today, easy peasy remove three screws and pop the headlight out and the vac pump is right there. Remove two nuts from underneath ( had to get to them from the wheel well), the entire job took less than an hour. It stayed chilly for most of the day and I drove it around for awhile and I had no alerts pop up. Terrible seal job on the plastic on the vacuum pump, it's gappy as all hell it's no wonder it started fouling on me, you can see where the road salt has made it way into the pump. Will update tomorrow after my drive to work cause it's supposed to be cool in the morning.
Everything is good! All it needed was a new vacuum pump. I picked mine up off of rock auto and it was nearly half the price that ford wanted for the part if I would have bought it through them.

Is there anything specific found that lead to looking at the vacuum pump?

I am having the same issue and just last week the dealer could not hear the noise. I would like to return to them with a little info on how you found it was a vacuum pump.

There's a new TSB under which my vehicle was repaired that calls for the replacement of a transmission pump. Fixed the problem for me.

I have just purchased a 2014 FX4 SCREW 145WB with Max Tow. It is a great tuck, but I have developed a problem that is similar to what you have explained above (The original post). The problem started to occur for me around the 700 mile mark. I have roughly 1200 miles on the truck currently. That said, the problem is worse when the engine and tranny are not at operating temperature. It is a really weird noise like an "ugghhh" sound from right around the driver's headlight area. My wife explains the noise like air trying to get out, but I know it is not the BOV Of course I took it to the dealer and I couldn't reproduce the problem with the tech on board because the engine and tranny where completely warm. The next day the noise was back and there is no rhyme or reason when it will occur, but is driving me crazy and I hate it. The truck still has power, but I know this is not right. Can you tell me what you have done to fix the problem, if you have? I appreciate the help as I want to get this fixed asap and the dealer has not be overly friendly so I want to bring them some information. Thanks in advance.

Best,

First Ford Boost

What you are hearing is the hydroboost pump for the brakes. The engine doesn't produce enough vacuum for the brake system(go figure) so we have a pump for it right behind the driver side headlight. If you pump the brakes in park and the tone changes that's what you are hearing. The 11s and 12s have the same loud pump. The 13s is different but will still make noise. It's pretty normal. I hate it but what can you do.
That's what I thought about mine as well. Now its doing it right before it shifts at 30-35 and 50-55. Plus when the brake pedal is depressed.

Well I have been cruising without touching the brake and the noise started and kept making the noise until 6th gear. I'm puzzled.
I've got 5500 miles my 2013 fx4 has been doing this since around 800 miles. I can never reproduce it for the dealer mine makes the noise shifting thru gears 3-6 and when in park but if I tap the accelerator it will stop.
Really wish they could fix this it's getting old and as of late seems to be louder when it happens.

Ours sound identical. Mine is at the dealer now for this and I will update when I get it back.

I took mine in today for the same sound. God, I hope they figure it out quick.

Seems like it's pretty common but the two dealers I've dealt with seem clueless about it.

bama, dealer told me they couldn't find anything wrong with it. They drove another 13 boost and said it sounded the same way. I can only think of two things now: 1) the sound actually disappeared for the time being, even though it was there when I drove it home. 2) the have no #### idea what they are doing. I'm just thinking why did they need to drive another 13? No experience with the ecoboost or a tech that is inexperienced?

Yea I'm betting they'll start figuring it out around warranty expiration time. Very frustrating that they're so clueless.

Took mine to the dealer last weekend for the same noise issue. Took the tech for a ride and he said he never heard a noise like that. He opened a hotline ticket with Ford and he said he would follow up with me when he heard back. Ford played it off and told the tech to road test another similar vehicle on the lot. He then told me the other vehicle made the same noise. That is crappy...you cannot tell me that noise is normal! Now it does it all the time and it even makes the noise shifting into park. I have noticed when the tranny is 100% warm the noise goes away. Is this tranny noise? I am so frustrated! This has ruined the new truck experience for me. I traded in a good GMC for these problems! I am very upset!

Okay so i guess no one knows what this could be, as of yesterday I started hearing the same noise when putting it into park and into drive. This morning when I got to work i put it in park and it started making the noise. I pulled out my camera and this is what I got. ( when i open my door you can hear a diesel engine in the back ground but when i put my phone under the fender you can hear it well, and then I open the hood and you can hear it and then all of a sudden it stopped.) any comments?? ITS DRIVING ME CRAZY! maybe this video will be enough to show the dealer if i go in.

there is a TSB for this issues and mine was fixed following me showing this video to the guy at the service center.
they has to replace a part on the tranny i belive he said it had to do with the modual that switches the gears. once i get all the paperwork ill copy it and post it on here .
