Tonneau Cover Drains Installed

My bed cover came with drain hoses and very little in the way of directions to connect them. So, this is how I did it.

I suppose you could do this with any drain hoses, but the size and experimentation is on you or that. My UnderCover Flex came with something very similar to 1/2 inch Poly sprinkler hose for the two drain pipes. I had seen people bend those hoses to get it out of the bed. I didn't like that idea. I decided to use 45 degree hose connectors, but that didn't really work out once I saw how the hose was going to sit in the bed of the truck once connected.

I ended up using a total $3.47 worth of sprinkler connectors from Lowes and some spray paint I had at the house.

  • 2x 1/2" ECO Lock x 1/2 90 degree connectors (The drain hose inside the bed fits perfectly into the ECO Lock end)
  • 2x 1/2" poly insert female (Outside the bed)

First remove the bed plugs from underneath the bed on both sides. Use a screwdriver to carefully depress both tabs on one side then the plug(plate) should pop out into the truck bed. Note: The tabs are VERY weak so be careful.

The parts:

I sanded down the threads about 1/4" to make the connector fit tightly together around the bed plug.

Drill a hole CAREFULLY using almost NO pressure on the plastic plate (plug) with a 13/16 spade bit. The ECO Lock connector should fit snug , but you could sand/file a little out of the hole if necessary. You cannot screw the connector all the way in.

Once the dry fit was done, I taped and painted them black just for personal preference so they wouldn't stand out in the bed.

The two connectors simply screw together on each side of the bed plug.

Plug installed back in the truck. You just push it back into place.

Drain outlet from underneath the truck.

Drain Connected.

Both side drains.

I am not completely satisfied, but for a couple of bucks, I think it looks pretty good.

The bed covers are "water resistant" or some similar wording. They are not "waterproof". The rails underneath the cover have a valley to hold any water that gets past the rubber seal. The tubes let that water out of the bed.

HA! Lets try to narrow it down.

I'm wondering if it was the Canadian edition that had the custom drain holes already in? View attachment 10753
2013 FX4 with no existing bed hole on the cab end of the bed. There is a similar hole by the tailgate for the bed extender, I think.

What year is your truck? What sub-model is your truck? Did you install the cover or did someone install it for you?
