Truck broken into, no signs of forced entry..??..

Parked the truck along a fairly busy street by the beach, pressed the lock button on the driver’s door and locked the keys in the truck when I left since I was going surfing. When my wife and I returned she requested that I let her in because the doors were locked, so I went around to the driver’s side keypad to unlock the truck. My money clip was still in the center console with a few bucks cash still present, and her purse was still under the back seat, so we were not immediately tipped off that anything had happened. It was only when we stopped for food on the way home and realized 2 of my debit cards had been plucked from my money clip, and 4 of her cards were missing from her purse that we must have been burgled while at the beach.

I checked everything and there are absolutely no signs of forced entry, the door gaskets are not marred / torn, no scratches are present anywhere, no marks on the windows, and no tampering with the drivers side keyhole. So what are the possibilities..??..

  1. I accidentally hit unlock instead of lock when I left the truck, and then the thieves happened to lock it on their way out?? Not likely.
  2. They had some tech way of unlocking my truck.

I’m leaning towards #2, and even more so because the horn has stopped working. I first noticed this right after the cards were stolen out of the truck when I double tapped my key remote lock and it didn’t beep once like it’s supposed to (this is the truck finder feature). So then I tried the horn manually and it doesn’t work at all.

So what’s the chance that thieves used something to zap my truck open and shorted out the horn in the process?

I find it weird that the theives didn't take your entire money clip. Other than hoping they could buy some time to use your cards before you noticed and cancelled them?

I too lean that you didn't properly lock the truck. I think the new vehicles are supposed to be very hard to "slim jim" ... other than maybe one of the other doors?

BUT ... I beleive I read there is a "master code" that is known to dealerships that will open ANY door. I don't know if this is an Urban Myth. I just wish I could reset the code to my door so that the "original code" that came with my truck would no longer work. Just my NEW code.

Same thing happened to me a few years back in San Diego. I know I locked my truck because I hit my key fob twice and it didn't beep so I turned around and did it again making sure the horn beeped. Come back 30 mins later and my doors we still locked but I was missing my gps, 2 pairs of oakleys, my odb II reader, and my work bag. Cops told me never to use my key fob to lock my truck b/c people have readers that are able to store the code and use it to unlock the truck. Weird that you locked it manually and they still got in. Sucks, but you're lucky they didn't take the truck with the keys being in it!

My friend had a 13 Silverado that was stolen from her driveway.. When they found it there were no signs of forced entry and ignition wasnt busted or anything. She had both sets of keys with her. Still to this day they have no clue how the truck was taken. Technology these days is crazy

I had my 09 Superduty broken into, they used a slim jim, but it took me awhile to find the very faint very light marks on the drivers side window. So my bet is a slim jim.

I believe the keypad uses the same type of transmission your remotes do, so It's not physically locking it like you would using the buttons on the door.

I had the Ford keypad installed after I purchased a vehicle and that's how it was explained to me. It's programmed the exact same way that a new key fob is.
