Just curious what motor oil everyone seems to like.

I was under the impression that Rotella T6 was more of a Diesel Oil because of the high Zinc content in it. A lot of Zinc with some oil consumption is bad for cats. Causes catalytic poisoning and O2 poisoning which can throw a P0420/30 code. I was directed to use Pennzoil for a Shell full Synthetic for regular gas engines with cats.

OP, not trying to hijack your thread, but looking for answers as well. I live in NH its cold here. What is the best synthetic oil to run here, and filter, and how often should i chang my oil here in NH?

I was thinking of using mobile 1 ep, filter i have no clue, and frequency of change i dont know either. So please Advise.
Thanks OP

I would use a top end full synthetic and the Ford OEM oil filter.

I've gone to several of them and all they have on the shelf is the Plat. Might just have to get it online and I can pick it up at the walmart of my choice..

Thanks,

I've been using Castrol full synthetic since the second oil change. Currently trying the 0w-30 flavor as it has gotten excellent reviews over on Bob is the oil guy.

I ran castrol edge or titanium (they change the name every other month) it made my engine rattle on start up almost every other start. Penzoil rattles are very few and infrequent.

Royal Purple with Royal Purple filter. I chose that filter after reading this.

I'll probably go with Mobil1 EP next change, but stick with the filter.

Every one has an opinion on oil and how often they should change it. I believe that anyone should use a quality synthetic oil and a good quality filter. I use MC filters and full synthetic oil. I change it every 5000 miles no matter what. I live in Las Vegas and the the temps here hit over 100 often in the summer and its hard on an engine. Regular oil changes will make a difference in how your engine preforms and lasts. Read the owners manual and decide what works best for where you live. As with anything you have, proper maintenance will save you time and money. I love to read all this stuff and find out what works and what doesn't. So many people here have great knowledge and know what just plan and simply works.
