Since this has not been done yet, I am going to run it. I do not have mod status SO ONLY POST A RESPONSE TO THE QUESTIONS BELOW OR POST A LINK TO THE THREAD ON THIS FORUM containing someone with a blown engine and I will update this post. I do not want this to be 50 pages of cluster, just the facts answering these questions You can PM too. This thread will only work if YOU ARE HONEST. LIST ALL MODS.

This thread is only to help us get a better understanding of what/why/how some engines are failing.

2/7/2016 - It is my strong belief, from evidence, the cause of engine failure is from sucking up water/oil from intercooler causing rod to snap OR running an insane tune. A catchcan/hole in stock intercooler or aftermarket intercooler is a must.

2/24/2016 - Some people have been removed from this thread throughout its short history because they want to stay anonymous. Don't understand why but "it is what it is."

Thank you.

The info on mmateri's is incorrect. According to his post The rod broke at the crankshaft side and made a nice 4" by 2" hole through the block

Seems like most of these blown motors were running a tune.

I can't speak for the others but myself there's no way my 87 perf/ tow tune would cause a piston to fail and I even spoke with 5*. They tune within Ford specs so they're safe to use.

#11 ·
Not true.

#12 ·
No sure what you are reading. Have a buddy running 5 * that threw a rod. Due to the inherent issues of these motors the increased boost when adding a tune is not helping.

Did you inform LET of ALL your mods and check data logs? Did you always run 93 from the same gas station?

Also, you stat no catch can. It should be known for everyone running performance tunes relying on octane.....if you have no catch can and are recycling the crap from the PCV system, that stuff will LOWER your octane rating when being introduced to cylinder.

It is my strong belief, from evidence, the cause of engine failure is from sucking up water/oil from intercooler causing rod to snap OR running an insane tune. A catchcan/hole in stock intercooler or aftermarket intercooler is a must.

I had two connecting rods through the block on my 2014 F-150 Ecoboost . I will look up the specs I have set aside. The replacement engine ended up overheating on a trip through CO and then I had them buy it back. There was a whole thing with that process.

You all need to add a octane line item. I bet for a lot of these failures people were running 87 octane. Running 87 octane on any force induction motor is just dumb.

Like myself, some people don't have access to anything higher than 87... and I to do not believe that any of this has to do with detonation..

I dont believe detonation woudl cause this. You would be able to hear it anyways if it was that back.My bet is everyone of these is hydro lock.

Usually with detonation you either get a burned piston if not a melted one....although I agree with the octane used. Stock 2016 and all I have used is 93 octane...no tune, no mods yet. Completely stock. I too suspect condensation as a major contributon to the cluster mess. Waiting to see if any 2015/2016 has this happen.
