Do you need a specific gauge wire though?

I never mess with electronics. When I first saw the video, I thought it would damage the electronics by connecting neg/pos. I had no idea this what a thing until mentioned on the site.

To be honest you really do not need any wires. Just unplug the negative terminal and turn your head lights on to drain any residual juice in the system. Some tuners automatically do a KAM reset when you load a tune, or at least my Livewire does.

What is HID. I forget. I hate acronyms

On an F-150 you can just unplug the 3 connectors on the PCM and wait a few minutes to reset the KAM. Turn on the lights or press the brake pedal if you want to hurry it up a bit. By disconnecting the PCM instead of the battery you don't lose radio presets, programmed door codes etc.
After you connect it again just go for a drive and after a few minutes everything should be good again.

No, you don't lose you radio presets, or your door code etc (but I don't have a NAV system), if you disconnect the battery (and discharge). The only thing I noticed was my date and my clock on my center display needed to be reset

That and the sound preferences get changed, ie treble and base.

So, if this happens, a KAM reset has taken place? I noticed this happened just by having the neg side disconnected before.

To be honest you really do not need any wires. Just unplug the negative terminal and turn your head lights on to drain any residual juice in the system. Some tuners automatically do a KAM reset when you load a tune, or at least my Livewire does.
I will probably do this then since i have not picked up wire. What does it do by flipping on parking lamps with neg side disconnected though? Drain faster? Plan on doing this for 10mins I guess.

I thought you could also do this by just unplugging the battery for 15 minutes, I am lucky as I have an SCT livewire, KAM resets are built into the programmer every time you tune. Going to look back and see which tuner said that again, think it was LET.

With your SCT and unplugging the battery, this should be sufficient. I find that even with the same tuner, if there were significant mods to you programming, that it is still best to a full reset. Just works better.

From the video and other readings, unplugging the battery will not be enough? I just want to do it as I install mods so the computer will learn quicker and be a blank slate. Yes SCT has it built in, I do not have a tuner.

It is bad to run HID on low battery unless the factory lights have some kind of shut off. It can damage the ballasts and the bulb it self by not having the proper juice. If you notice, when you double click the locks now, instead of lights flashing, it only flashes parking lights. Flashing the HID briefly is also bad for them.

Makes sense, although I seriously doubt that there is enough residual voltage to even trigger the relay for the HID's. But why risk it? You can do the same thing as I said earlier by turning your park lamps only and your fogs if your truck comes equipped with them.

It's just to discharge the capacitors. So doesn't need to be big.

Should you do this when replacing the spark plugs. Some have stated their trucks have run like crap for a while after replacement, maybe this would help them "learn" a little quicker.

That's the idea.

Yes having the neg disconnected for long enough it does a KAM reset, the wire is just to shorten the amount of time.

I would do it for an hour at least if you aren't using the wire to discharge the capacitors.

So if your tuner does a KAM reset after a tune you will lose radio presets and time? It looks like my diablo doesnt do that... whats the boost and trans like on the sct canned tune? May switch over
.. and for the kam reset tool on the sct.

Doing a KAM reset on my X4 does not do anything to the system, visually. No presets lost, no changes in sound settings, etc. Even if you remove the negative terminal from the battery none of this stuff happens.

As far as length of time for tuning, if you are going to get a brand new device and update it via SCT updater software, it will take about 5-10 minutes initially. Once you get your tune figured out and want to transfer it to the device it takes about 2 minutes (depending on how many tunes it is writing to the device).

Once in the truck, It takes about 5 minutes to install the new tune.

When getting a revision or new tune, return your truck to stock (~5 minutes), update your software on your SCT device (~5 minutes), Load new tune to device (~2 minutes), Upload new tune to truck (~5 minutes)

You don't lose an presets un hooking the battery.

When you do a KAM reset, it is important to idle for 5 or so minutes and then drive around town normally at operating temps for a while according to ford tech. If you go out and hammer it, it will remember it.

Easy with the KAM resets. If your trying to diagnose an issue, it will clear out pending codes and prevent a CEL from popping.

It's a good first step if it hasn't been done in a while, but sometimes it can take a long while before your truck will display a CEL if it's having an issue. Resetting KAM will clear this out and you will need to put some miles on it before the code pops up.

Sometimes, a fool should trust what the wise say, instead of coming out yelling Totally Not True... because you couldn't find it on google. The wise usually know what they are talking about, because of either hands on experience, or maybe they've just been around long enough to know what's what

Sometimes 'gets by' parades as wisdom. To be honest, so much of the advice on this thread is in conflict that I would think twice before using any of it.

When I changed my battery I had to program all my SiriusXM Chanel’s back in. Date and time also. As for AM/FM I don’t know if it saves those. Never listen to that since my truck was new so never did presets.
