Do you need a specific gauge wire though?

I never mess with electronics. When I first saw the video, I thought it would damage the electronics by connecting neg/pos. I had no idea this what a thing until mentioned on the site.

To be honest you really do not need any wires. Just unplug the negative terminal and turn your head lights on to drain any residual juice in the system. Some tuners automatically do a KAM reset when you load a tune, or at least my Livewire does.

Do not do that with HID

What is HID. I forget. I hate acronyms

On an F-150 you can just unplug the 3 connectors on the PCM and wait a few minutes to reset the KAM. Turn on the lights or press the brake pedal if you want to hurry it up a bit. By disconnecting the PCM instead of the battery you don't lose radio presets, programmed door codes etc.
After you connect it again just go for a drive and after a few minutes everything should be good again.

No, you don't lose you radio presets, or your door code etc (but I don't have a NAV system), if you disconnect the battery (and discharge). The only thing I noticed was my date and my clock on my center display needed to be reset

That and the sound preferences get changed, ie treble and base.

Interesting, shed some light on this please. What exactly does it affect? What if instead of turning on your head lights, you turn on fog lights only? KAM reset in not a big deal IMH, all the small settings can be adjusted within a couple of minutes.

I thought you could also do this by just unplugging the battery for 15 minutes, I am lucky as I have an SCT livewire, KAM resets are built into the programmer every time you tune. Going to look back and see which tuner said that again, think it was LET.

From the video and other readings, unplugging the battery will not be enough? I just want to do it as I install mods so the computer will learn quicker and be a blank slate. Yes SCT has it built in, I do not have a tuner.

It is bad to run HID on low battery unless the factory lights have some kind of shut off. It can damage the ballasts and the bulb it self by not having the proper juice. If you notice, when you double click the locks now, instead of lights flashing, it only flashes parking lights. Flashing the HID briefly is also bad for them.

With your SCT and unplugging the battery, this should be sufficient. I find that even with the same tuner, if there were significant mods to you programming, that it is still best to a full reset. Just works better.

Makes sense, although I seriously doubt that there is enough residual voltage to even trigger the relay for the HID's. But why risk it? You can do the same thing as I said earlier by turning your park lamps only and your fogs if your truck comes equipped with them.

SO back to the little alligator clips, any gauge wire is ok? I'll stop at radio shack or similar.
It's just to discharge the capacitors. So doesn't need to be big.

Should you do this when replacing the spark plugs. Some have stated their trucks have run like crap for a while after replacement, maybe this would help them "learn" a little quicker.

That's the idea.

So, if this happens, a KAM reset has taken place? I noticed this happened just by having the neg side disconnected before.

I will probably do this then since i have not picked up wire. What does it do by flipping on parking lamps with neg side disconnected though? Drain faster? Plan on doing this for 10mins I guess.
