My own dive into the faster pool was much the same, but hit a different wall. After some seasons of drag racing 1971/72/73 my Z28 in street stock class I could afford some deeper modification. Heads, carb work, and a 4.88 gear to use the high RPM of the little 302. The car was very impressive, but life tossed a curve. Labor union strike right after Cathy became pregnant 1974 (we both worked at Nestle CO). By spring of 75 we were getting very thin money wise and I sold my Z28.
That resulted in a shift in interest to small inexpensive sport cars/sedans and slalom racing.

Whatever you get Matt, I'm sure you will have fun with it even if in a different way! KM
Yep plus I imagine now there's plenty of used Cars that you can take with some mods and hit in the 10s or 11s fairly easy

Matt - I lived vicariously through your build and mods and WOT’s and Dragy runs. It was fantastic to read your progress, see you try new things, see you proud of your results. It made me happy that you shared it all with us too.
I will likely never move past having a tune; I’m no longer at the stage to add turbos, manifolds, exhausts, intercoolers or anything else to push more out of any engine. Heck, I struggle to get WOT completed for feedback to my tuner! So it was through you that I got to experience all of that.

Thank you for sharing those chapters. But, as I said before, I doubt this is the last chapter of your book. I look forward to seeing how the storyline evolves. You threw a potential plot twister once before (I am still eager to attend a wedding) and I am certain no one can predict the direction this story will go.
I will be there to follow it if you’re still willing to share it!

Thanks brother. I appreciate your thoughtfulness. I’ll invite you to a wedding someday! And of course, there will be a new build! Come Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday next week I could have a new truck. I will update you guys, as I am excited to see this truck I ordered!

Maybe it’s time to retire this thread and start fresh!
I will! As soon as I get a new truck! The white 2.7 beast has had a fun life! And it’s been an awesome build! But life is not over, just the life of its original engine. With the new engine it will go on to make some owner happy.

I enjoyed watching you push your 2.7, I wish you never found the limit. I’m excited to see your next build. I think it would have been a lot more interesting if you ran the truck closer to sea level.

Sad to see it blow. I’m proud of you, you pushed it hard and enjoyed every bit of it. Although it’s never fun to see your hard work and money blow up. I’ve had it happen on a few vehicles I’ve owned. The feeling never gets any better.

I can’t wait to see your next build even if it is a lot milder. You made me want to tune both my bike and my truck. You’ll find a new project to dive deep into.

Matt, something we discussed before but still curious about. Have you gotten a good look/inspection of the remnants of the engine? I'm not so much interested in the damage, but the conditions of the combustion chambers undamaged, the valves, particularly the intakes, that may be attributed to the ethanol blend you ran. KM

Guys this truck will be alive in a few months! I ordered a 2016 2.7 complete motor with the turbos on it for 5250$ core charge and shipping included. Motor has 80,000 miles on it. I hope it’s in decent condition. Obviously it was in a truck and running before, but I hope it isn’t trashed internally. It’s got a 3000 mile warranty or something so should be good for a little. I’ll make sure it’s all set up and good to go.

Getting the motor ready to be pulled. I was shocked to see what I saw underneath the valve cover. I’ll be doing a YouTube video on that shortly. Anyway, that’s the status on Snowflake currently.

My kiddo loves Cheez-Its too. Don't let any fall into the nooks and crannies.
I won’t. They only fell into my mouth. I did take a coolant bath. Really dumb how it happened but yeah. If anyone wants to know, coolant tastes very bitter.

Eeewwww!
At least it's not poisonous any more, used barrels of ethylene glycol in the chilled water lines where I worked. When you are older and get a colonoscopy it is part of the prep. KM

Not bad. Can I ask where you found the motor?
