Makes me feel like my $1600 ko2s was a bad deal lol!

These things are DEAD quiet. You'd never guess there is such an aggressive tread, with such large tread blocks, from inside the cab. They are not QUITE as smooth as the original tires, but they aren't much worse in that regard. So far it doesn't seem like my mileage is really taking a hit. Maybe 1 mpg at most.

Baaaaaaaaaaa

Yes they did, a little bit. I seem to have lost a pretty consistent 1-2 mpg across the board. It's not much so it's hard to come up with an exact number, but especially highway I seem to have lost 1-2 mpg.

Bought my truck new. Absolutely hated the stock tires. Put the same Falkens as OP after having the truck less than two months lol Never regretted that decision. One of the best tires I’ve ever had. Good highway traction wet or dry. No road noise. Good ride.

Bought my FW AT3's a year ago - great dual-purpose tire. Sheds water and mud very easily. Had GY DuraTracs before but didn't need to go with that aggressive of a tread this time. Also lost 1 mpg as well.

After 21,000 miles, my tires had wear in the center. That usually means over pressured but they have been at 39-40 psi the whole time.

Stopped at Discount and they will pay $100 a tire, so I'm getting $400 back. Going to try them again and hope I just had a bad batch. Still $600 out if pocket. But no way I'm running these tires in a MN winter.

If I remember tomorrow I will take pics. 2 were bad and the other 2 looked like they were on their way out.

Hopefully by 2-3 pm tomorrow I have new tires.

Sounds to me like you should have chalked them for proper tire contact.

I have no idea how to do that. Could probably YouTube it. Had 2 different shops check alignment. Precision tune and meineki. Definitely not high end shops but neither found an issue. See what happens.

Chalking is just a visual confirmation that the air pressure is resulting in an evenly distributed contact patch the full width of the tire.

Especially useful for a tire that isn't a perfect match to its intended weight load.

In other words, when we upgrade to Load E tires on our lighter trucks, it would predictably require less air pressure to properly carry the lighter truck than it would with one heavier. Too little air, and the chalk might rub off the outer edges much quicker than the center. Too much air and you get the opposite. The center bulges enough to wear the chalk off the center of the tire at a faster rate.

It doesn't matter what the pressure is (so long as it's not low enough to knock the tire off the bead during cornering). If you have to drop to 28-30 psi to get a flat contact patch, that's perfectly acceptable. Chalk is simple - chalk a few inch bar all the way across the tire, ensuring the chalk quantity is even, and drive, usually 100 feet or less. Inspect the chalk line. Like Snake mentioned... more chalk removed in the center, air down. More chalk removed on the outside, air up.

You'll also find the tires to be better mannered afterward. The tire's contact patch is small to start with.. if you're aired up too high, you may be cutting that small patch by as much as 50%. Certainly enough to make a truck less sure-footed, more "jittery", more prone to hydroplaning, etc.

I appreciate the info. I have never had to do the chalk method. My stock Goodyear's were replaced because I wanted new tires and the went with duratracs, but LT. I never rotated. Never had this type of issue in my 20 years of driving.

But I will be doing this if it doesn't rain today.

Is there a certain pressure most people are running these at? I will still do the chalk method.

Alrighty. I'm guessing everyone was on the edge of their seat. New tires are on. Happy about that. 35 psi. No chalk yet. Too many cocktails/beerskis.

Old tires. 21,000 miles. Other 2 were ok but on their way out. And little dude for good measure.

Cute little buggar!

Classic overaired. (the tire) lol
I know that it might not seem like you had too much air in them, but the visual evidence is that they were "bulging" with whatever air pressure they were at.

Of course a heavier weight on that tire, with the same amount of air pressure, might have loaded that tire more uniformly across the contact patch.

Once you choose a non-oem tire, that sticker on the door jamb loses its legitimacy. It's recommendations might transfer to another tire make/model, but it might not.

So crazy about air pressure making that much of a difference but I understand. You learn something new everyday. I will be more diligent now. Probably chalk test tomorrow. No cocktails on Sunday for me. But plenty more tonight. Cheers. Appreciate the info from everyone.
