Installed a BakFlip MX.
Image

Had a Decked Drawer set in the bed and I liked it for back packing, canoeing, and hunting, but those activities have changed a bunch over the years. With more long road trip drives I became convinced that a hard bed cover would work better. The install was easy and took 1.5 hours. I was familiar with the MX4, helped my son install his. KM

Oil and filter, done.
Cleaned MAP sensors, done.
Suspension check and alignment, done.
Emissions test for registration and plates, done.
Pulled the cold side charge pipe and check, just a light film of oil 1 shop rag wipe and clean, done.

Only thing left to do this spring is spraying down some suspension and frame parts with Amsoil Heavy-Duty Metal Protector, which is ordered and on it's way. KM

The leaf springs have begun groaning so figured it's time to do some lube/undercoating. Spend some time with rotary wire brush and a hand brush then my first use of, Amsoil HD MP
$15 for a 16 oz can is not bad compared to FFilm. Sprays neat and clean clinging and not drippy at all. A nozzle gets tween the spring leaves. Turns sticky in an hour or so and hard overnight. I have worked with commercial cosmoline protectant and this is very close, good cling and penetration, dries hard so stays on not rubbing off cleans off with petroleum solvents. Smells just like cosmoline! The bottom of my truck needs a second coat and will try some photos then. KM

Just loaded a Gearhead 2.7 AO tune! Option list on the BDX at loading were tire diameter (I correct via Forscan) and idle rpm which I set to 675 (my preferance). Loaded fine without trouble and I tokk the truck out for a 30 mile drive. Feels good right off, shifts firm no hicups I could feel or instigate. Performance wise opinion is early but good as compared to the BCB Highlander. Maybe a bit soft at under 2500. High and lows for data after 30 miles,

No slouch during break in at all. That includes 2 WOT to 6500 rpm in second gear. KM

Matt is famous for playing it conservative at low rpms, relative to many tuners.
I've always appreciated that, but not everyone is content with the approach.

It is kind of good for me as I use a conservative tire size, that lacks traction is some cases. KM

That's something I wasn't too sure about at first ( when I very first started running gearhead the revision prior to the P5 release ) , but I've came to really appreciate it, and I know my wrist pins appreciate it as well.
This p5 revision though it's 100% better in regards to low and torque right off the line than it was with the previous version.
I don't know if it's just in my head also but I swear his tunes do more adapting and they get stronger and stronger. After about 60 miles now on my newest revision if I do anything near a half throttle takeoff or more it's just serious tire spinning

Nah it is, I have a few draggy times to prove it between the two files 0-60........ It is significantly spicier from the dig....

This is an AO tune not update-able. I'm not after power and have been tuned 6 months after delivery with BCB AO and a 93 octane logged/updated tune, both were and are very good tunes. Since BCB closed shop a few years ago I've been considering alternative tuners. GH AO interested me as I do some long road trips.
I think the GH AO tune is fully mated now to my truck and just got back from logging 4 freeway on ramps It is as healthy as my BCB Highlander AO tune pulling 21+ psi and exhaust turbo air flow of 43+, and a solid 0-60 time of 5.6 (2wd and 275-70-17 AT tires so traction is not very good). This tune feels a bit softer at low rpm but kicks in mid-range and up shifting at WOT around 6300 rpm.
It's a keeper for me! KM

Had a cloudy cool day last Sunday so out with the clay bar/ceramic spray wax/trim blackout. The old F150 can still shine! But was kinda sore on Monday, stiff old body! KM

I use this thread more as documentation and a reference so I know where my F150 was.today Easter 2025. Took some height measurements.
Front ground to fender lip, The tape measure is 3 inches, 39 total,

Ground to body edge after the front wheel well, 18 inches.

Rear ground to body edge just before the wheel well, 18 (after I took the photo I saw the tape did not quite reach the body so rounded up.

Spring maintenance time broken into parts, simply cause I'm lazy and have the time.
Sensor cleaning, air filter things, throttle idle relearn. Sensors only a light oil coat, after the re-learn the truck idles at 605 rpm in gear and 620 out of gear smooth as can be with a variation less than 50 rpm total.

Plugs are gaped and waiting as well as an oil change. While out re-training the throttle/idle I broke the tires loose at 3500 in 3rd gear. Spunky little engine there! KM

Oil change today 6 out 6 in like always. 3800 miles since the last change last November, no big road trips this year Cathy has spent a lot of time on other matters. The tapered RTV cap worked great on the small filter stem O-ring! KM

Oil change 2 days ago. Today IC and charge pipe inspection. A light coat of oil that took 1/2 a paper shop towel to wipe out, most from the charge pipe elbow, the bottom of the IC felt dry. Buttoned up and tested to 20 psi! KM

Another day, a little more done. Emptied my can of Amsoil MP on the truck's bottom. 8 winters in WI never garaged.

Some rust scale and bolt heads but nowhere as bad as I've seen in the past. Pay no attention to the neighbors Jeep! Next up is dropping the spare and cleaning that as much as possible and lubing the cable/winder parts. KM
