I was surprised with the white letters, too. At least not the “H” brand that came on my last F150 In 2013. I don’t remember the exact name.

I looked At gas tank cover and there was no way to open it. Turns out, you push a dashboard button and it opens after a 15 second delay! It would have been helpful to get a real manual. Sitting in the truck looking for stuff in the manual is not the best. For example, there’s a slide lever with two buttons marked + and - below it; I still dont know what they do.

I did get the self filling gas tank option, though. we took the truck on a drive after Picking it up. Truck said 488 miles to empty. After we drove it about 150 miles, it said 491 miles to empty when we got home. 😀
Slide lever might be your trailer brake controller.

OK, first, you are in for a lot of surprises if you don't know what the buttons are all for. You had me laughing with tears. I could just see you standing with the fuel nozzle with a [emoji848]

Yea, the "slider"... Built in trailer brake controller and is integrated with the computers in the truck. Lots of cool info on the dash concerning towing.

And it's TRUE that when you fill the gas tank up the initial miles-to-Empty is based on the previous historical data and since your truck doesn't have but the tiniest sample to work with, it's guess was low. Now you are driving it and providing it with new data and its basically admitting that it was being pessimistic. After a couple of tanks it has a much bigger data sample and it will get to know you, if you know what I mean. Lol

You are going to be a lot of fun, I can already tell.

Edit: You can download the owners manual so that you don't have to go sit in the truck to read it. [emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji1787]

Warning, it's a 750 page PDF. CrAzY

I got a couple of my most desired features tonight! [emoji2957]
No more horn honking when I exit the truck while it's running. Woo-hoo! No reason to cause everyone in earshot or someone in the house to come see what's up. Stealth is sweet.

And even better is I got my REAL Coolant Temps and Transmission Temps back on the dash. Those ridiculous but fancy looking gauges just sit there static while the real temperatures can vary by 30 or 40 degrees. It's crazy.

Props to the fella that also bought a Powerboost Platinum and is heading up the organization of Forscan for the 14th Gen.

ForScan for the win! That software has not only SAVED (likely) millions in repairs but has some sweet "dealer only" stuff wrapped up in it...Okay, okay...basically dealer software on the "open source" side of things...but I digress.

I have to say I am incredibly jealous of you PowerBooster fellows.

Currently putting a solar system on my enclosed and have been reading this thread thinking to myself...why? Why did I not just bite the bullet, sell my youngest into slavery, my daughter into the S trade and my wife...oh wait. Back to reality.

Okay, so yes it is expensive to get a spaceship, but I gotta say I am impressed. Down the road, when they become available (if that happens) maybe....but I have never owned a "new" vehicle and as a result never paid that premium each month.

Sigh.

I am legit jealous.

And the thing is so stupid fast OEM.
Win/Win/Win

And at some point the lower trim levels will start getting discounted again. So you can keep your wife & daughter around too!

Are those changes to gauges and horn options on the Powerboost software or does it require something else
Windows Laptop
ODB <> USB dongle ($30)
FORScan software (free open source community)

There's a nice help file to explain how to do it.

Think of it as a poor man's Ford IDS

First, I could post this in "What Made My Day" thread because it DID Make-My-Day. In fact, it's like the sun started shining....

Find it and CRANK IT Up!

OH, and apparently the sun did get brighter Cuz my truck ain't all black today. A little bit of Rootbeer sparkle coming through.

Now that I have my Temps displaying on the dash and I ran about 50 miles on some errands, I now know a couple of things about this motor VS the 2018....
1. The BCM module refresh rate lags behind the ODB by a few seconds so the Ngauge Temps are ahead of the dash values briefly. Example, the Ngauge will show the ECT climb or drop by a couple of degrees and the dash might take 5 seconds before it adjusts to match.
2. Still this motor runs about 15°F lower than the 2018 3.5EB, but the tranny temp is about 5-10°F higher at moments. Once you are cruising and staying in one gear, the tranny Temps drop back to about what the previous truck ran. But I have no idea what really accounts for either because the cooling loops for the 2 trucks have more differences than they have in common. Here's just before I got home. Tranny was between 198-210 for just normal farthing around town. August ambients of course. Texas Tropical Torture Temps. Lol

Oh, I discovered what this is because someone with a Powerboost had a slow leak of a strange liquid coming from it and making a little puddle in his garage.

173686

His dealership took his truck in and there was a bit of debate about what the liquid was. I circled the exact area that the leaking fluid was dripping from. On my picture it's obviously water condensation and NOT the fluid he was losing.
The hint is the condensation. :)

That whole apparatus is a heat exchanger with Coolant on one side and refrigerant on the other! The leaking fluid was refrigerant oil. And like I showed in the picture at the beginning of this thread it is mounted right behind and above the Intercooler but below the radiator.

It's the coolant loop for the battery. One of two coolant loops for the Hybrid portion of the truck.

By the way, the dealership didn't even attempt to just tighten the connector or replace the oring. They kept the truck until Ford shipped the whole assembly.

I can't wait until Ford dealerships and techs aren't so intimidated by the Powerboost. That's like replacing a Turbo because the jiffytite was leaking.

Snake, no doubt I've missed this but did you decide what the box in your exhaust system does? This post sparked my thought as I had wondered if it somehow warmed the battery.

Discussion starter · #233 ·
Yes, it is indeed a method for Ford to HEAT the main engine coolant, according to the coolant loop diagram. Apparently because of it being a Hybrid and the ICE not running at various times, Ford feels they need a way to dump heat IN instead of extracting it. Lol

Can you imagine? A 3.5 Ecoboost that can't heat its engine coolant up without help? CrAzY

I ain't touching it until folks way smarter than me figure out things about these trucks. That's why I ain't chopping it up or altering the FR exhaust to work.

By the way, I actually got off my duff today and went to find a box for your exhaust. Couldn't find one long enough but a sweet gal at UPS fetched me 2 that can be altered into one that will work perfect. So you never know! I might actually get around to it? Lol

A post that says a lot about the Powerboost in one pic. My 89 year old truck driving dad just can't believe stuff like this.
Word is that mileage goes up as the truck gets broken in. He has 9000 on this one

Here's that Engine coolant loop. Not to be confused with the other two coolant loops for the Hybrid components. The exhaust heat exchanger is circled in red

Man that looks like a lot of stuff that can go south. Has anyone gotten an ESP for their Power Boost? Is it more expensive than one for a regular truck?

If I should get one, I'm pretty certain I'd get a ESP.

ESP pricing seems to be the same. But you don't need or have to buy it when you purchase the truck.
And remember that the hybrid portion of the truck is factory warranty of 8 years/100,000 already.

But I agree, it'll be interesting to see how the trucks hold up long-term. I hooked up Forscan last night and was a little amazed at the scan result for modules. Dang this truck is full of computers.
