My fold down back seat mod

I used a set of stainless fishing leaders to make this a bit easier... Walmart- Under $3... Stuff my fingers back there while lifting up the rear sit a bit to get the backs to space out as much as possible, then pressed the clasp end of the leader over the silver pin and held it while I tugged...Bam.... took me about 10 minutes to get it sorted..

Once they were down, I fished the leader as I saw on another thread, so no drilling neccesary. I made a loop in the opposite end of the leader for me to "pull", and its done...
I looked at this because I am thinking of adding heated rear seats. This looked like a way to keep from unbolting the whole thing. The mechanism clearly isn't designed for high volume use, but will work for my purpose. I did a quick (read cheap) mod to make it easier also.

I will add some pictures as I know some people had problems finding the latch release.

I added simple zip ties (I actually used black zip ties, but the white ties made the pictures more obvious) to each side. I used 1 foot ties on my second attempt after finding the shorter ties hard to get a hold on. I folded the ties in half to act as a handle.

The latch connects to a post that can slide up and down in the fixed mount on the cab wall. It appears to be held in place (and location marked) only with a stripe of paint. It seems to move each time I fold down the seat. I keep meaning to better mark the proper location with a metal punch.

Space behind the seats is extremely small, but there is some at the bottom. Once the seat folds up from the bottom there is less at the bottom. I would not want any sharp objects back there.

I am not really sure what year models this all applies to. I know a friends 2006 SCREW didn't have this.

I did this tonight on my 2011..I was really excited to do it..told the wife and she looked at the latch and said that would hurt if you sat on it. She didn't understand my excitement. .and refused to say that latch was pretty

Here is a video I found showing how to fold the rear seat down. Funny thing is I showed the guys at the dealership how to do this. They had no idea that the rear seat could be folded down.:D Just thought that some of you may not have known about this especially since the 'experts' that sell the trucks didn't.
HAHAHA...OMG that was kinda like watching creepy truck porn....."ahhhhh let it back down...let it back down"...... Floyd the barber's pervert grandson. WOW

How can I view this video? I am trying to put on some seat covers on the rear seats. Thanks

You don't really need the video.

Raise the seat until it locks normally.
Remove the headrest.
Look down behind the seat. (suggest flashlight & mirror)
Lift up on the silver pin.
When it unlocks, release the seat bottom.
Fold the seat back down

Hello! I am having the same problem here. I cannot figure out how to get the back of the rear seat to fold down. Can you re-post this video if it helps? It just says "The video is private". I'd appreciate it!

Read the post right above you

Welcome!

I recommend you thoroughly read applicable threads before asking questions. Most have been answered lol

Just moded up my rear seats to make it easier to get them down. Not a lot of storage back there, but its someplace to fold up the rear seat cover I throw on when the dogs are riding with me, or store a jacket, blanket etc.etc. Was easy to get them down, just fold one side up but don't lock it, then just reached back and found the little "nub" then snagged it with the closed end of a combo wrench.
took the latches off, drilled them to fit the aircraft wire (bout 9-10 inch lengths) threaded though hole, secured each end an covered with some heat shrink tubing...too easy! I don't use the space a lot, but is nice to be able to easily access when need be.
Enjoy.
