I think there are plenty of other threads on this. My memory tells me Mobil1 and Amasol are the top two.
Oh and there is something with purple people talk about.... Gd it... I can't remember the name... Not sure on that one.

Its Royal Purple...they sponsor quite a bit in the racing world, but not sure I buy into the perceived quality.

I've been running Shell Rotella T6 5w-40.
Truck seems to love it.
Engine guts still looked brand new when I had my valve covers off two weeks ago.

I have been thinking about going to Amsoil 0-40(instead of 5-30) they make for the Fiats due to fuel dilution. I wanted to look into if that would be an issue due to engine tolerances first?

I have been using Castrol 0w -40 for two oil changes now. Engine seems to run smoother and quieter now. I just sent a sample off to Blackstone. Curious to see how it will compare to the 5w-30 I was using.

I'm a huge fan of Amsoil. But with the oil dilution issues and the fact your paying all that extra money to be able to run it for much higher change intervals, it just doesn't make sense to spend all that money when I can run Mobil-1 and change at normal intervals. I can get Mobil-1 for $26 a 5 quart jug at Walmart.
But I have not noticed any dilution as of yet, and the only time I've noticed any foaming was this winter when it was unseasonably cold and I was doing short trips.

Mobil 1 is good oil, Amsoil is the best. Make sure you are getting Mobil 1 EP though. I don't run it for the extended intervals, I run it knowing it is going to protect my engine always and so I don't have to go to the hell hole known as Walmart or any other parts place.

Take a look at my thread. My first oil interval I went exactly 6 months, 2500 miles in winter, idling and short commutes. Over 5% fuel dilution. According to our resident oil expert, he said the other numbers still check out fine (explains in the thread) and my oil was roughly equal to 5-20. I could have got away with another 1250-2500 miles under same conditions. The reason to go to a 40, would be so I CAN run extra long intervals with the fuel dilution.

OH, I agree with you. I use Amsoil in all my other applications including my Harley.
Yes I do use the Extended Protection Mobil-1.
I'm going to have an analysis done because I'm not seeing any signs of diluted oil in my truck.
I run the 0-30 in the winter and then a 5-30 in the summer but I've been pondering going to a 5-40 during the summer.

Rotella T in bikes, gokarts, lawn tractors, tractor. Kendall semi synthetic in the Hyundai and the gone it not forgotten Tacoma because that's what the Goodyear independent retailer in town uses. Rockin' Ruby will go to Ford for full synthetic at 5K (now at 2K).

Rotella!!!!

I ran rotella in my duramax and thought about running it in the eco too as it produces less soot and holds viscosity (ie. less deposits on valves and reduced effects of fuel dilution) better than most others.
Then I heard something about the additives in diesel oils not playing nice with gassers and their cats. So I'm currently just running motorcraft full synthetic.

Motorcraft 5w-30 full synthetic after 4000 mi. break-in on Motorcraft 5w-30 synth blend. I saw a 10 mpg increase in fuel economy and plus 34hp and 147 lb. ft. On the dyno. The engine idles virtually silently and the turbos shreek like my ex wife after I got my child support lowered. This sh** is awesome!

That surprises me more than just a little bit.

I was using Motorcraft synthetic but since Wal-Mart, Autozone, and O-Reilly don't carry it in 5W-30, I switched to Pennzoil Platinum.

Next oil change, I happened to fall upon Pennzoil Ultra Platinum at Wal-Mart for $27.97 for the 5 qt. jug. Grabbed all three they had there.
