No they won't work. Not sure why but I had to order for 4/4. It has a different part numder also than the 2wd

 

I'm sure they would work just fine. The front ends both weigh the same. The only difference might be actual spring rates between the 2wd and 4x4.

 

That's what I was thinking. I don't see them mounting any different. Maybe a tad longer?

 

Aren't the 4x4 trucks like 250 lbs heavier, most of which would be in the front axle?

It will work just fine for your leveling/lifting needs. One thing to remember is that at its lowest setting, it's already 1" higher than the 2wd variant. If you are not planning on bringing it back to stock 2wd height with these, go for it.
I went the opposite on mine. 2wd Bilsteins on my 4wd. Stock springs and strut mounts. Enjoy the ride.

Thanks for the input. Do you happen to know if my 2wd will take these at max height? I have a 2" spacer I'm removing so I think these would put me at 3" over stock since they are 1" longer already? That would actually be perfect for me but don't know how my FX2 will enjoy it!

 

The 5100's have grooves that set the spring perch height. The lowest groove on the 4wd 5100 is already 1" higher than a stock 2wd. If you want to maintain the same height as your 2" spacer, then put the clip at the 1" higher groove according to the Bilstein instructions.

 

You don't have any cv shafts to worry about so you should be fine. Make sure you get an alignment after

 

In this same dilemma right now. Have a '12 XLT 2WD and got a good deal on 4WD struts. Going to install them in a few weeks and see how it goes. But now I am thinking about setting them at the second setting after hearing they are already 1" higher.

250 lb isn't going to make a lick of a difference on a shock. That's just like putting an xl fat guy in the front seat.

 

Any update on this? Do you have any pics?

Nothing yet. With the holiday haven't had a chance to take care of it. I'm also going to do the upper arms at the same time

 

Here it is with just a new set of 4x4 takeoff shocks. I haven't done the bilsteins yet but this was a brand new set of take offs from a 4x4. I am going to remove the stock 4x4 spacers from the top of the struts. It's sitting 2" higher than the rear right now and I think 1" will be perfect

 

There aren't spacers on stock 4x4 struts.

 

Looks good. You would be better off just adding a 1" block in the rear to level it out. Save yourself the trouble of having to align the truck again.

 

I bought a pair of 1000 mile old take off complete struts and they had a 1.5" spacer installed. They looked factory though so I was under the assumption they were.

 

Oh okay. But no that is a level kit.

 

Just made an appt for my 2WD XLT for next Monday. Will be doing the 4WD set of 5100s up front (set to top) and rears with 20x10 Fuel's with Nitto G2s. Will post pictures when it's all said and done

 

You're going to need to lift the rears then... 4wd struts with the perch set at the top will probably be 3" or more.

Well unless you like that stupid squatted look..

 

finally got what I wanted. I am now running no spacers, the 4x4 OE Springs, 4x4 5100 set at the number two ring, and swapped to a fabtech upper control arms while I was in there. I ended up with a 7.5" wheel to well gap front to my 7" wheel to well gap rear. The ride is so much better on the 5100 its almost funny. way smoother yet planted.
