I've done that before with old-school vehicles, but nothing as complicated as a Boost in a truck. I wouldn't attempt this on one of these trucks unless I were in a shop with the right tools. No doubt, it can be done but not with my bones.

Do you guys think it’s wiser to do the motor myself in a parking lot with limited tools and an engine hoist or have a shop do it?
If you can afford a shop, I would, but I know you have done plenty in the parking lot before.......

I would use a shop.
These days, doing this work in a parking lot can lead to a lot of theft. If the parking lot is at an apartment or condo or other “managed” community, there may also be restrictions they impose on doing major repairs.

Unless you have a way to secure it. Get a shop to do it.

Yeah. At this point I’m gonna have a shop do it. However, I’m gonna rip the turbos and all my mods off it first.

These pieces were on the road. The piece with Mo on it is a piece of the block. The other pieces are piston skirts View attachment 194983
Dang dude, sorry to hear, as others have mentioned I'm sure you knew it was a very high possibility but still never easy to swallow the day it happens.
I always assume there's a 50-50 chances its going to happen when I see builds being pushed hard, not a matter of if but when. (unfortunately with my gun shyness with the Ecoboost I even feel this way with a hardly modified or stock one) 😔
I know it can be like chasing the dragon though,(I do the same thing with certain things) and sometimes those thoughts are pushed way back in the back of your mind until they happen, hopefully if and when they do the person is prepared. The Last thing I like seeing is a fellow booster down for the count.

Here's to finding a used engine quickly 🍻

Similar to Sir Ike, such experiences float in my memories. Any way Matt, you have spent time with me and the truck I put together. Not as adventurous, but maybe more useful. Still want to thank you for the ride! Even vicarious experiences can be good!
Keep us informed and good luck to your future. KM

My plan as of late is to have a shop install a new engine, then sell my truck and get a 21+ 3.5L and do intake, intercooler and a light 91 tune and that’s it.

Your intercooler should fit a 21+ truck.

Archiving for historical purposes.
:p

I book marked it too!
I kinda hope we will one day see an equally detailed build thread in a 21+.

There will be a build thread, just won’t be anything wild. Just other aesthetic mods.

"Light 91 tune" Somehow I made 600 at the wheels with this cream puff 91 tune 🤣

Side note, I got a 21 just over a week ago and said "I'll drive it around stock for a while"... Black gorilla lugs, shorty antenna, blackout emblems, Bilstein 6112 5160 combo, deep aluminum trans pan all on order... Still on factory warranty so a tune will wait... Gen 3 is a night and day difference from gen 1

Hahaha, nice yeah I’ve heard a 2021+ is quite amazing. I would black out my emblems too. I want an agate black truck this time with black wheels and no chrome.

There will be a build let's keep this thing detailed thread...
Fixed this for you. When you buy a black truck, I fear you're thread will be centered on how to live with a painted black truck. Truly a labor of love and a losing cause for any black truck that isn't garage-kept. They are beautiful for about 6 hours at a time (less when it's pollen season), not driven, once a fresh detail is completed.

I miss my tuxedo black truck. The new one in carbonized gray isn't too terrible though.
And also Black Trucks for the Win
