Ya the 2.7 is a beast but making almost 2.3x more power than stock is probably going to grenade any engine but especially a smaller displacement one.

I think I've seen some people say 500 whp Is the limit for the 2.7 and it sounds about right.

I know some people are making 600 whp on the newer 3.5 but imo they're playing with fire
Yeah I’m going to either leave my 3.5 stock or slightly tuned and that’s it.

Hey, does anyone know? Do the 2021+ need intercoolers? If so, I’ll save mine if it’s not trashed.

I just bought one for my 2021 and I've had it for a week if that says anything 🤣. And the warmest it's been here is 67°

Well said. Now if a Ford Performance Tune (albeit usually weak as tunes go) becomes available and allows warranties to remain intact, that in my mind is slightly tuned.

The reason I'm thinkin' down this road is that on the Exploder forum, there seems to be a good number of people opting to go this route. It took Ford over 3 years to come out with a tune following the release of the ST. When they did, they advertised an increase of 30 HP at the wheels.

I have seen reports (several) of increases of up to 60 WHP on 93, using this tune. I have no idea if this is factual or which Dyno was used. 30 HP isn't much to cheer about when some Tuners are getting 100 HP and beyond for roughly the same kind of money. 60 HP on the other hand while maintaining a warranty is worth it to some owners.

Having said all that, who knows which vehicles Ford Performance deems worthy of one of their tunes.

My brother has the Ford Performance tune on his Ranger. He got it when they initially advertised it as +90 hp, I think its down to +45 hp now.
He swears by it and considers it $700 well spent (more now I think).

Hemi and LT/LS folks are spending thousands for a cam, headers and a tune to get +30 hp, so we are still very spoiled.

Lol let's revisit this thread in 6 months and I'm sure you'll be onto turbos by then.

I said the same thing following my last truck and now 3 years later I'm turning it into my version of the halo warthog 🤣

We all have that itch and it WILL be scratched
Scratching my itch would have been a 2017+ raptor with 1700lbs of payload, under 50k miles, and around $40k🤣 I'm sure I would have found a bunch of things to "fix" on that it it existed.

Some of you guys are laughing at me saying there will be a build thread in 6 months. I will not say I won’t modify anything. But if it comes with a warranty, I’m not doing anything to void it. I’ll do intake intercooler and maybe 91 tune.
Having my 2.7 blow up was a very traumatic experience even though it seems like I’m taking it just fine. I’m not looking to repeat that. I will be doing everything I can to make sure my next truck does not blow up. I like the sound of a performance tune under warranty from ford though. I would get that for sure.

I don’t really have that itch anymore. I feel like the blown motor cured me. I would build a race car up to whazoo, just not my daily driver anymore. I want a nice, fun, reliable truck. I would not do turbos. They don’t even make any for the 21+ yet. I’m curious if the 21+ turbos are larger than the 18-20 turbos but I’m assuming no one knows. All I know is that the 3.5L is stout from the factory already, and the turbo whistle from the intake on the 21+ 3.5 sounds pretty wild.

If you're cam swapping an LT/LS with headers and a tune and only got 30 hp, you messed up pretty bad.

A lot of the cammed LT 6.2s will run north of 500 whp NA, and it's not uncommon to see 450 whp from a cammed LS3 with supporting mods now.

I get what you're saying though, and I agree that performance per dollar, it's very hard to beat forced induction stuff.

I'm sure you already knew, but just to clarify, I don't think anyone is laughing at you at all!
But hopefully instead adding some levity to what is no doubt a maddening and stressful situation.

My attempts at humor here most certainly come from a place of respect and admiration for all that you accomplished with your truck, and not just what you did, but the tenacity with which you did it.

So I interpret these comments about your next truck as simply a humorous reflection of your gumption & git-er-done-ness.

But yes, while I didn't ride the arc nearly as high as you did, I am landing on the other side thinking my next truck will be pretty mild engine-wise. I'm more eager to allocate funds to suspension and brakes, maybe sound. A tune perhaps to sort out shifting and so forth, if it needs it.

Oh you guys are fine. I was just saying that those who said “just wait, in 6 months there will be a build thread” don’t quite know what I went through. Definitely don’t want to repeat it.

Yeah I agree with you. Like I said, all I will do performance wise is, intake, intercooler and maybe exhaust and possibly a trans tune or 91 tune. I will do other mods like black out emblems etc, but if I get the truck I want, it’s not gonna need any interior mods except for floor mats.

That’s kinda where I’m at, if I do Turbos it’s pretty much going to be turbo whistle. It’s so fun driving a Lifted Truck with great suspension and some Power…beats trying to achieve pure speed imo

What's the difference in risk to factory warranty between a "mild 91 tune" and an aggressive E30 tune?

And I assure you that I'm just not the guy to laugh AT you. Nor am I happy in the least that your 2.7 found its limit. I admit that I increased my respect for the 2.7 as a direct result of your truck. And that's saying something since I have long felt it's the best overall designed turbocharged motor Ford builds.
