I take forever to do this kind of stuff. Like to go slow. It took me about the same amount of time it took you. I re-filled with RoyalPurple 75W140. I like the sight glass and the ability to change the oil easily. Diff covers sure are designed in a silly way.No just took my time, it should have took 1 1/2 hrs.

Dang, sounds like a bunch of bull crapWell where do I start? Ford rep called and said it won't be Under warranty because of oil
Level, it puts to much pressure on system (pressure?) it's a vented system!! When I talked to service guy at dealership they said that oil came out when they pulled the fill plug meaning It was to full. Now the oil level is in the middle of sight glass. I kept my mouth shut and went home and pulled the fill plug and nothing came out. So I called the dealership back and asked them if the drained the oil and they said no. I asked them why doesn't oil come out when I pulled plug, he hesitates and said that lift was probably not level causing oil to come out, so other words what you told the ford rep was wrong so now what do I do? Have to go back and get PCV on Friday. Will talk about the issue then

And of course $40 later![]()
My factory fill plug is on drivers side and when I pulled it I could put my little finger in and got oilThe rear diff, like transfer case, if you pull the fill plug (which is on passenger side of housing) the fluid should be right below the bottom of the hole or barely weep out.
When i installed my mag-h cover, they measure by markings on the dip stick. I never pulled the factory fill plug to check. I put 4 quarts in, it was at the bottom of the line, so i dump another quart and it was right at the top line.
I just checked afe website, they say "about 5 quarts" with oil in middle of sight glass.
The stock system is 5.9 pints = 3 quarts according the Amsoil specs. You should not have a problem with your current fill level.
Again, the only way to really make sure is pull factory fill plug on housing.....maybe i will check this eventually. Over fill could cause a leak at seal as mentioned.
