So my 2011 F150 Super Crew Ecoboost was the first Ford I have bought since the mid 1990's and, unfortunately, it will be the last. I wanted to believe that Ford had improved its quality over the past couple decades but alas they have not. This is a $38,000 truck that only has 135k miles on it and I am spending $2k-$3k per year just to keep it running. It started with having to replace the heat actuator 3 times (between 74k and 90k miles) before I finally got one that worked for more than a year. That was followed by replacing 3 O2 sensors and 2 catalytic converters only to find that they were most likely fouled up by an intercooler issue that was addressed by a service bulletin. So after spending over $3000 to repair items associated with the TSB I still had to pay for the TSB as it was never considered a recall. Fortunately however when my truck failed to go into reverse a couple months back, that was covered by a recall. Oh, but I did have to fix a bad bearing and the water pump and replace the serpentine belt because it had coolant all over it. Did I mention I only have 135k miles on the truck? I keep telling myself that it is still cheaper to maintain this truck rather than buying a new one but I may have to finally cut my losses. This comes after running a quick errand today and having the speedometer needle fall off after hitting a small bump at around 30mph. I have never had a speedo needle break off any vehicle I have owned! I like my F150. I like the way it looks and the way it drives. It has 4WD but I've only had to use it a couple times in the snow. I don't drive off-road; it's primarily used for highway miles and taking occasional loads to the landfill. So why in the world is my truck literally falling apart at 135k miles? I'm sorry but my last vehicle was a Honda SUV that ran for 10 years and 200k miles and only had the alternator go bad. I did the same driving in that as my F150 and it had a LOT less problems. I shouldn't have to be a "truck whisperer" to own an F150, especially not for the money they cost.
