Thanks for keeping us updated. I hate all the unfinished threads that you never find out what happened in the end.

Greetings all,
So, last night I went and finally picked up my truck. When I asked what was wrong with the pan/ bearing seal, that would cause both to fail at under 5000 miles, I got shrugged shoulders. But, thats all i got. No sorry, no apologies for no calls, no nothing, other then heres your keys, see ya.
Anyways, according to the sheet, They used trace dye to determine that the rear main was leaking. It said quick lube had confirmed the oil pan leak, but the tech actually says he replaced the main bearing seal, with no mention of replacing the oil pan. The parts list, however, shows that a pan assembly was installed with silicone adhesive, as well as a gasket, which is how they listed the seal, since there is no mention of a seal by the name seal, on the parts list. It also listed a couple of bolts one being an adjustable one. Then, it listed 6 qts of oil and a filter assembly.
So, it appears to be all good, but, since it wasnt running bad, I wont really be able to tell anything until I drive it a bit and see if anything is still leaking. I can only hope not, as Im sure I would be waiting another month or so, for them to try to make it right. So, at this point, the repair is done, and now we have to wait and see if they really fixed the leak permanently.
I hope your service adventures are less painful then this one was. Unless the beast starts leaking again, I will conclude this post with this last update. I hope its a help to someone.
I bid you all a great day!

My 2016 2.7L XL Sport is at my local dealer as we speak getting an Oil Pan... I noticed 4-5 drops of oil on the ground and so I removed the heat shield to reveal a soaked oil pan. My truck has a 6/16 build date and presently has 18,778mi on it. I'm disappointed.

my 17. 3.5EB is at the dealer as we speak for the second time for a leaking pan. Pan was replaced in July 2017 with 5000miles. I now have 10500miles and its back in again for round two. This is a hell of a way to get "free" oil changes.

Well guys unfortunately it doesn’t get any better and I don’t just mean to be the bearer of bad news.

I just got out of a 2015 2.7tt that Ford replaced that stupid design plastic pan (8) freakin times and it still leaked!!!

It’s the design. It’s flat plastic with no o-ring on it trying to seal against the flat aluminum engine block. If it’s hermetically curred in a NASA laboratory it might seal but I seriously doubt it!

It also suffers from a poor bolt design where the holes are much larger than the bolts. The bolts have a flange head but nothing seals the hole from oil leaking into it except the two flat sealing suface that should definitely have an o-ring grooved into it!

Ford eventually did the right thing and bought the truck back, but I went through 35k miles of this!

I unbelievably reordered a 2018 with the 2nd Gen 3.5 and first thing I did was crawl under there and look ?

It does appear the bolts holding the pan on are now black in color instead of shiny steel like before?

so far so good at 2000 miles!

Yep, that’s it - good luck!!!

Don’t worry about the oil on transmission being another leak. It’s coming fro the boltsthat are leaking and blowing back ther when you driving!

Dropped it off yesterday, they said they wanted to keep it overnight to let the RTV cure, guy said it needs 8 hours. They called me today and said they noticed the oil pan was warped and ordered a new one. They told me it will take another day but it should be ready tomorrow. I asked whether that will be enough time for the RTV to cure and the guy corrected himself and said it will actually cure in 2-3 hours. One thing I can say, my service advisor has called me as promised to give me updates, which is a pleasant surprise, so far...

They called me today, told me they need to keep it another day, would not say why, just gave me a vague response. I assume they just didn’t get around to it. I asked for a rental car, they agreed to provide me a new Focus loaner. I told them if its ready by tomorrow, I won’t need it. If they keep it over the weekend, I’ll take the loaner.

Picked it up today!

They called me today, told me it was ready to be picked up. They had it for a total of 3 nights, called me every day to let me know of where they were at. Time will tell whether or not the issue has been resolved, but I can say I think so far, they’ve been very professional.

I am having same problem with my 2016 2.7. After first oil change at 5,000 miles, noticed fresh oil stains in driveway. Have had it in to dealer twice to change out oil pan. I am continuing to monitor situation (cardboard under truck every night). Its a real bummer because first new vehicle I've had in 30+ years!

After 6 new oil pan changes within the last 6 months, the dealer called today and is replacing the ecoboost engine. Each time I had the oil leak, I had to rent a car for 6-7 days while the "process of replacing the pan occurred". On this last visit to the dealer, they covered my rental car. Hopefully this ends my dilemma and cudos to Ford for eventually doing the right thing. The engine only had 30k miles on it. The problem is that I will be in a rental vehicle for another few weeks while the engine is ordered and replaced. Good luck!

so like a warped lower block? that would explain things and give hope to the rest of us who haven't had leaks.

I too had a problem with a leaking oil pan on the 2016 2.7 ecoboost motor. Had it replaced 4 times. Ford finally replaced the engine. I feel they did the right thing. I also called Ford directly and made a case with them. I don't know if that's why they replaced the motor or not. My truck only has 13,000 miles on it. The new motor only has about 800 miles on it but so far so good.

2015 going in for second new oil pan tomorrow. Takes about three days once they get started. Ford has a service bulletin on this issue. If you look up 2.7 oil leak you will find several post. Dealer tells me it's a percentage game .One out of a thousand or so no worries for Ford.
If enough people have the problem I expect to see a class action suit. 7 Ford's and this will be the last.

7 Fords and you are "done" over this oil pan?

I admit I don't understand the reason for it to take 3 days though.
